Musical Cast on Tour... to see Aladdin!
On Wednesday 28th June the cast of Footloose spent a day exploring Melbourne’s theatre culture.
We got to Federation Square and played charades (a tradition from last year's excursion) while we were waiting for the rest of the students to arrive.
Then we started the day with a tour of Arts Centre Melbourne. It was cool because as well as sharing stories about different shows and actors, our guides also took us into all of the different theatres and also backstage to see the rehearsal space and access corridors.
After lunch, we all met at Her Majesty's Theatre for Aladdin! The show was awesome, every aspect of it. It was honestly magical.
I sat with a group of friends at the edge of the balcony and it was really cool seeing that they were enjoying it as much as I was. During the intermission, we were all talking enthusiastically about everything we noticed and liked and geeking out together. It meant a lot more to us because we knew we would be performing in Footloose very soon, and we were noticing things like the set, costume, music, and lights. My favourite song was probably ‘One Jump Ahead’, which was really well done because Aladdin was climbing on the set (they looked like buildings!) while the city guards were chasing after him. ‘Friend Like Me’ was also fantastic but I don't want to spoil too much since Aladdin will be in Melbourne until the 19th of November so there is still time to go see it for yourself!
By the end of the show, our throats and hands hurt from cheering so much! After we were dismissed, a small group of the musical cast were lucky enough to meet Ainsley Melham (the guy who played Aladdin) and get a photo with him!
It was a great day overall and I recommend going to see Aladdin because it was a truly amazing performance. And of course, everyone should come along and see our production of Footloose too!
