The EcoCore group has worked hard over the last few years to not only help the environment but make Suzanne Cory the beautiful, welcoming school it is. From solar panels and a wind turbine which save electricity every day, to the trees and gardens outside increasing the beauty and biodiversity of our grounds. This year is no different. As part of the inaugural Green Week the EcoCore group, with the support of the school administration and the SRC, is initiating a recycling program. Week Eight will see a number of exciting activities: an environmental speaker, recycling games, fundraising and more!
Our school was built on environmental principles and our goal is to continue that tradition. Recycling is an important way of minimising our ecological footprint, but we also intend to change the mentality of students at school. Students often leave rubbish, or even belongings around the school. EcoCore will aim to increase the awareness of students to understand that waste should be minimised if possible, and put in the right place when used. Being environmentally aware, as well as taking care of the school grounds is an important part of our school values.
Students will Respect the environment they work in as well as the people they work with.
They will Contribute to making the school cleaner, greener and friendlier.
They will Aspire to have the best school possible.
So what can we do to make this happen? Talk about the environment. Learn, teach and talk about recycling. Make a little effort, because if you don’t do something, who will?
