LOTE at Suzanne Cory High School
The SCHS LOTE department has a deep commitment in training students to become global citizens. During our LOTE week, we celebrated our diversity and offered fun and informative activities while helping the Vietnam Youth program with the proceeds.
On July 25th, Anna-Maria Antonijevic, Mackenzie Pyke, Remy Pequignot and Michael Ye represented The Republic of Rwanda at the United Nations French Model, where they had to persuade and negotiate with other countries in the language of diplomacy to find allies on the asylum seekers’ issue.
On Wednesday 30 August, Year 11 Chinese students went on an excursion to the Chinese Museum, a great day to learn about Chinese history and culture.
Two Year 10 students, Adhyayan Verma and Alyssa Steyn were granted a French award to take part in a day of total immersion on September 17, which they both greatly enjoyed.
Finally, we are very excited to announce that both Joshua Cordina of 12K2 and Elizabeth Ta of 12R2 will be commencing next year’s study in Shanghai China. The pair are both recipients of a China Scholarship Council scholarship, and will be studying Chinese Language at Shanghai’s prestigious Fudan University. The scholarship will span over the course of a year, in which they’ll be able to immerse themselves in the culture of China as well as meet other international students interested in the language. Both students expressed their excitement at being given the opportunity, and are looking forward to developing a better understanding of both Chinese language and culture. Elizabeth and Joshua are the second set of recipients of the CSC scholarship in the history of SCHS, with another two students having participated in the programme in 2016. We would like to wish Elizabeth and Joshua all the best with their studies in 2018 and beyond
